Anyone else see it?

If you did, what did you think? I thought it was wonderful, very entertaining, witty, beautiful and poignant; gorgeously designed and the cast was fantastic. One of the best things I've seen from the BBC in years! Why did they bury it so shamefully?

i couldn't believe how rude the people were, the gentry frowned on those upstairs to begin with, but then they behaved just as badly, I saw "Three Sisters" last week, and this lady was shocked that someone was eating sweets in front of us, it like they are at home watching television, I wonder what she thought if she watched tonight.

I felt the drama really put you there, the ballet had been promoted in the way some hollywood films are, built up so much, everyone was convinced it would be spell binding, the first person that said I hate it must have been quite brave, incase everyone said that it's wonderful and they appeared just not to get it.

I liked moments, it really showed in dance the mind in an absolute termoil, but i am not sure i would have liked the ballet as a whole.

have you seen "The soldiers tale" ?

reply

I quite liked it... Not exactly unmissable, but interesting and different... Not sure Adam Garcia was a particularly good choice - he's pretty to look at, but not an especially good actor... If anyone else is knowledgeable on the subject, I'd love to know how accurate the performance of the ballet was... Presumably lots of people recorded their impressions of it at the time... But, I believe the original performance predated choreographic notation. So, how accurate was this recreation able to be?

I just got done taming a wild honeymoon stallion for you guys.

Wikipedia entry: On 30 September 1987, the Joffrey Ballet in Los Angeles performed The Rite based on a reconstruction of Nijinsky's 1913 choreography, until then thought lost beyond recall. The performance resulted from years of research, primarily by Millicent Hodson, who pieced the choreography together from the original prompt books, contemporary sketches and photographs, and the recollections of Marie Rambert and other survivors. Hodson's version has since been performed by the Kirov Ballet, at the Mariinsky Theatre in 2003 and later that year at Covent Garden. In its 2012–13 season the Joffrey Ballet gave centennial performances at numerous venues, including the University of Texas on 5–6 March 2013 and the University of Massachusetts on 14 March 2013.
