Cultural appropriation at its worst

Did Jake ever apologize for this?

reply

Why would he???

What do you think about a black actress playing the little mermadi? A black actress playing a queen of england?

A not so white latina playing snow white?

I have a persian friend and Jake looks (with make up and all) pretty close to my friend..

reply

🙌

reply

Sure.Just as soon as Jodie Turner-Smith apologizes for Anne Boleyn.

reply

And all the other black actors that played non-black roles.

reply

What are those roles? List all of them please.

reply

I could name plenty of white characters that have been race swapped. No one ever screams cultural appropriation. But you cast a white actor in a role originated by any other race and the woke nuts have a melt down. It's insulting when it's a real historical figure though. As insulting as if i made a film about Nelson Mandela and cast Harrison ford as Mandela.

reply

It only matters if the race is essential to the character. A historical figure sure but a lot of times it's you guys getting upset for nothing.

reply

That's the crater sized double standard. When it's a white character race is seemingly irrelevant. But if you try to race swap any black character no matter how obscure or mundane it's called cultural appropriation and racist.

You can race swap iconic characters like Jimmy Olsen and Perry White and it's acceptable but if you tried to make Urkel from Family matters a white dude race activists would rake you over the coals. Why is race irrelevant when your white but it's super important when your any other race.

reply

No actually the other side has a double standard as well. Remember the movie Blade? You know Whistler is a character that is based off of Jamal Afari in the Blade comics. Jamal is black and is Blade's mentor and close friend. They gave Whistler Jamal's story and he was white in the fim. Not a word is said and when it gets brought up nothing from that side. There is race swapping in other films as well. The last airbender film Ghost in the shell etc. See the issue is people get in their head how they want a character to look, and any deivating from that they will complain to no end.

Forget about writing, acting, characteristics etc all they care about is appearance first and foremost. I do not care about a race swap so long as the character's race is not essential. This goes both ways for me. So either all of it gets called out or none of it. I have no time for people that complain about a white character being race swapped and then are fine when a black character or another ethnicity is race swapped. I take the high ground and say he if it is not essential to the character they should be fair game no matter how it appears on paper. If the character's ethnicity is essential ok then we can get our panties in a knot.

reply

I'm not a fan of race swapping characters in general at all.Especially when it's a real historical figure.Quality wise it adds nothing.95 percent of the time it's just pure identity politics pandering. There are very few exceptions.I thought Denzel was a great choice as the Equalizer although personally i would have went with Liam Neeson.

reply

Historical figures race is essential as they are historical figures. So I get your beef in that scenario. I do not care if a comic book character gets race swapped when their race is not essential. In the case of Jimmy Olsen, Catwoman, Commisoner Gordon their races are not essential to their characters so why does it matter? Do those characters have to look basically the same all the time?

reply

I can look past race swapping side characters like Jimmy Olsen or Commissioner Gordon. It bothers me if it's an iconic character or a character that i'm a fan of.A black Batman would bother me as much as a white Shaft.Iconic characters like these should be left alone.

reply

That's fair even though I mildly disagree that is fair. I appreciate that you are consistent.

reply

Yeah I can’t think of any besides Anne Boleyn either so I’d be interested to hear what else there is.

took 2 minutes to find this before I got bored

reply

Fell into the trap all of them do. In many of those examples the race isn't essential to the character.

reply

Well do your own research if you're that bothered. White people don't tend to see their race essential to their character. Anne Boleyn didn't wake up everyday and think she had to represent whitey.

reply

Oh yes they do see it as essential even when it isn't. Look at all the the people hating on Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman. Catwoman's race isn't essential yet they are pissed she isn't white.

reply

Go fuck yourself. It was a fun movie.

reply

Cultural appropriation is a made-up thing.

reply

That's what I was thinking. It's like if I don a Samurai helmet I'm automatically guilty of "cultural appropriation" and should be ashamed. Get real.

reply

Absolutely. It's a total b.s. concept. Nobody owns culture.

reply

And a non-thing. Tell all those Korean hip-hop boybands cultural appropriation. Or what about Wu Tang Clan (the American rap group, not the real Wu Tang clan in China.) Or 99% of world leaders wearing western-style clothing regardless of their own cultures.

reply

Mostly, it's a load of old cobblers, something that the more idiotic Wokeists use to attack other white people, while they ignore all the real evils of the world. A local college recently had their food court stop offering sushi for lunch, because no Japanese people were working at that counter, so some of the students had nothing better to do than complain to the administration.

But yeah, sometimes it's worthy of a genuine complaint, as sometimes real damage is done. So I'm white, and say I start a company that makes fake Navajo jewelry, copying the designs from Navajo traditions, and I buy a load of cheap dyed torquoise from China and slave labor from Vietnam, and I flood the market with imitation Navajo jewelry made by non-Navajos and drive all the Navajo jewelers out of business. I'd not only be stealing ideas and profiting from other people's work, I'd be harming the people I stole the ideas from. That's the kind of cultural appropriation that's genuinely objectionable, but the Wokeist idiots would rather attack the lunch ladies at their school than the ruthless capitalists who are doing the real harm.

reply

If movies stop being made because of the twitter mobs going nuts over "cultural appropriation"...

Nobody would give a rat's ass! The film sucked, it bombed when it came out.
