Movie sequel 2013 *(rumor)

I was looking on wikipedia the other day and found this:

Sequel:

Jerry Bruckheimer had expressed a few months ago to make a sequel but this was ruled to have a busy schedule but gave birth in December 2010 that the idea had not been ruled out until the script was done.
Bruckheimer had the intention of releasing it at some point in 2013 in 3D.

Does anyone know if this is true? I really hope they are planning another one

Unfortunately, given that there's no citation listed with that blurb, I would take it worth a grain of salt.

Don't get me wrong, I would *LOVE* another film - especially if it meant bringing in some other characters from the games, like the Dahaka or, oh I don't know, the Dark Prince (I love the Dark Prince). I hope that the PTB's take a look at the fact that, going by worldwide figures, even though it didn't double it's production budget, it is the highest grossing video game based movie ($335 mill. world wide compared to the first Tomb Raider's $274 mill.)

Resident Evil 4 is the 2nd highest grossing video game based movie, not Tomb Raider, but yeah, with a budget of 100-120 million they should be covered for a sequel. There were a lot of bad decisions when it came to Sands of Time, particularly lots of money spent on scenes with no real value for the movie. Also, please, if they bring Jordan Mechner again to write the script, DON'T TAKE 10 other writers to rewrite and rewrite again what he wrote and was actually more focused and overall better then what we got in the end.

Oops, thanks for that correction. The annoying thing about Box Office Mojo is that in their Video Game adaptation list, they only base it off of domestic sales, not world wide...so Tomb Raider is #1 domestically with Prince of Persia behind it at #2 - but yet Prince of Persia did better than TR world wide - I forgot to look at the WW gross of others in the list.

Ebomaniac, this movie didn't break even, even with worldwide box office gross being taken into account.
The studio doesn't get back 100% of the box office receipts listed.

reply

Personally, I would rather go for a remake than a sequel. By a different set of people. And hope to see it done right this time.

reply

Sadly, the chance of a sequel is pretty much 0 since this movie wasn't successful at the BO. Which is a real shame as this could have been an awesome franchise

reply

Man I really liked the movie, and I truly hate Jake Gyllenhaal, but I think he did a great effort and got a good role. Don't forget that it's disney you wont see the prince killing hundreds and being a bad ass, I personally think they all did great, and every time you see the movie you get the characters better and get for what the director was aiming for, but hell, that is just my opinion.

I will really love a sequel, with the same cast, the sad thing is that the cast and director are too expensive =P

reply

Erm... I think you'll find the movie made 100% profit. Budget was $150-$200m and it made $335m at box office. Add DVD/Blu-ray sales to that...

reply

You clearly know nothing about box office economics. In the US studios get to keep about 60 - 70% of their box office gross, while overseas it's around 40%. Usually the number, most people take into account is 50% for the worldwide basis. Using the 50%, Disney made $170 million on Prince of Persia while the budget itself was in the range. Add to that expensive marketing costs which for big budget movies exceeds $100 million these days and the movie certainly hasn't made a profit.

Oh! I hope there's a sequel! Loved it!

reply

I REALLY HOPE SO! AND IN 3D THE MOVIE WILL GET EVEN MORE $ IN BOXOFFICE!

reply

Any news here?

reply

One would expect news of a sequel by this point.

That said...it's not one could not be made. The usual zombies of the video games made no appearance in the first. So perhaps a sort of "King Tuss is given a relic that actually is a trap that revives an undead King and his army" type of parallel plot is on the books.

reply

I would be so excited if they would make a sequel. But I hope they will lower the budget cause $200M is a bit overkill.

reply

Ugh, I have never in my life wanted a sequel for a movie this badly!!

They just HAVE to make one!!!

Sorry to hear that but my family and I enjoyed every second of the movie and I woulld be very grateful to see a sequel <3 so fingers cross :D

I don't agree. Jake's performances in his movies aren't about money at all!

reply

[deleted]

i highly doubt jake only did it for the paycheck, i think he genuinely wanted the role, judging by all his interviews he gave, if you were ever a fan of the series, you would easily know that the prince is one of the most lovable characters in the gaming industry. jerry buckihiemer wanted this franchise to be too big, it sucks it didnt make it like pirates, the visual effect done on it was too much, i blame disney

Considering how illiterate that unattributed wiki quote is, it sounds like it was written by a fanboy who didn't speak English and was using Google translation software. If you want to put any faith in that, go right ahead.

i think this movie would've done so much better if it were released at other times, cuz this movie was released at the time of the soccer world cup, so most people were in their homes watching soccer than going to the movies. The result? Well, alot of people who get to see this movie in dvd or tv and majority will like it. It's such a shame to see such a potentially good movie to get the wrong time for release.. if only they postponed the release and fixed the editing this could've been a big franchise

reply

Jerry Bruckheimer please please please make a sequel to this movie...
& please do away with the POTC franchise.

reply

The Pirates franchise makes more money than Prince of Persia does in a milesecond!

reply

Interesting that you said they should fix the editing, just seen this movie again and I thought it just needed some tidying up in the editing department, along with adding 30 seconds of dialogue more between various characters so that we feel for them a bit more. For example, the king did not even ask if Dastan was an orphan, he just assumed he was. A 30 second chat between the King and young Dastan and we can see how their relationship started properly. The movie was in too much of a rush. It was trying to get into mold of the adventure films of yesteryear, but they just needed to leave the actors/characters some breathing room to flesh out their motivations better.

Also, releasing a movie around the World Cup will screw with worldwide box office receipts always. Learn the lesson Hollywood.

I agree. Would like to see an extended edition.

Anyhow, I too would like to see a sequel, preferably with the same actors.

the only real hope for a sequel is if another studio buys the rights and makes one. I think Sony should try to get it. They could probably make a sequel with a much lower budget.

reply

I think a sequel would be nice, a sequel is normally a good indication that the movie did pretty well, I am wondering if it will still be about the sands of time or just another Prince of Persia game related storylineSource:Prince of Persia sands of Time Reviewhttp://moviereviews.noskram.com/2011/06/prince-of-persia-sands-of-time -review

reply

I really want to see a sequel because this movie wasn't bad as the critics said. For a video game adaptation it's a pretty good action flick and for those who doubt of this fact, go watch Mario Bros.; Street Fighters, or worst Dragon Ball again and you'll understand how much Prince of Persia was cool.

With news of Fassbender joining Assassins Creed, there are major rumors spreading about a sequel to Prince of Persia since both video games are owned by Ubisoft (who owns the movie rights to both). However, i think it'll be 2014 for its release because Assassins Creed movie might be released in late 2013.

reply

Assassins Creed will be made before PoP is rebooted. Disney and ubisoft should immediately part ways especially after the Star Wars purchase. Like someone else said Sony would do a decent job. That era of Disney attempting to crack the PG13 market with something other than Pirates appears over (now Star Wars). PoP along with John Carter both at best broke even but would've been declared losses for tax purposes. Also the sale of Oblivion to Universal says the Disney people are coming to their senses. Mercifully we won't be subjected to a Disney film entitled Assassins Creed.

reply

well 2013 is over now, and not even a blink of that movie.. and certainly i don't think it will, the story that follows "Sands of time" in the game was too serious for a family movie

reply

yeah, they even removed the serious part from first one, sand monsters, that is really missing from the film. and there is no chance they can pull the seriousness of second one with just ninja assassins or even at all.

reply

Yeah the sand monsters are a key part of the games story, the could have easily adapted them to be in the plot of the movie, why they didn't is beyond me.

reply

yes, in this case dagger is basically useless until the very end, because they quickly ran out of sand supply to use it. if they have used sand monsters, then he could have collected additional sand by killing them. and it would have been so much better
