you posted this a long time ago - thanks a lot for this! I couldn't decipher the letter in total (I tried hard ...) and I'm very glad I found your post.
Now for me it makes more sense why Jane left her husband after she read the letter. When Serena and Jane saw the footage of the olympics in 1984 - the one where Jane was injured badly -, the two commentators said:
"[...] And you don't come back from that. You can see the look on her face. She knows it. It's all the more tragic because she couldn't compete in the 1980 games. Because of the boycott. That's right. And we thought that was her year then. It was her year then. And these games were hers I think also. And you know she told me before these games that she had felt like an arrow that had been pulled back but never released. And that this was her chance. And it doesn't look like she's gonna get that release. I don't see how it's possible at this point. She's already 22 years"
So, thanks to Serenas words Jane realized she had another chance to get released. And she took it, I hope. It's a good movie, I really liked it.
