Mayor becomes very popular among American public.
Mayor has a veery decent chance to become President in 2008 if his party nominates him.
And so...
Mayor becomes the subject of an attack piece by his looney opponents who claim that he did NOT in fact improve his city or show true leadership during 9/11/01.
