Is this really improv?

Can someone tell me if this really improv? I thought so at the beginning. But then they get on stage and all sing in unison and know the lyrics to the entire thing. Wouldn't be hard to do this if you didn't even have the time to discuss the song with your team? Some of the things would be easy like freestyle rap. But other things on the show I don't see how they come up with it in a split second.

Anyone?

i was wondering the same thing...i personally don't think they're improving...

My theory is that they know the answers to things some skits like having to guess the celebrity trying to enter the club and the Nick and the guest are bouncers or the skit where Nick and the guest are cab drivers trying to guess who has stepped into their cab.

I think they know the answers ahead of time but have to guess the person by the improv'd impersonation the red or black squad member gives.

I've noticed for things like R & Beef and Nursery Rhyme Remix that they do a lot of quick edits that shorten the time it seems to take for them to come up with something. I'll say they have about 5 minutes to come up with something and the Black squad (who does theirs second) has 5 minutes plus the time of the performance of the Red squad. However the edit job doesn't give that kind of impression as they cut to the chase as it is a 30 minute show.

I think the Wild Style is improv'd for some guest like Snoop Dogg, Kanye West, and Wayne Brady while others like Brooke Hogan, Tara Reid, and perhaps Warren Sapp and Mike Epps.

I will say that they probably create their own punchlines ahead of time and prepare attacks for a person each show, depending on who they want to go after and I'm pretty sure they also create their own punchlines in defense ahead of time as well. I think the ones that improv their punchlines are usually the ones that suck except perhaps Affion, Deray, and Katt...I think they are the best at improv punchlines on the spot.

These are just my observations. Some stuff is improv, some is more planned out and calculated and some is written by writers. I will say this though...they never proclaimed that Wild N Out was an exclusively improv show where ever last detail was improv.

There is no telling how long they really have to prepare, because it's not a live show, it's recorded and then edited afterwards. So what seems like just a few seconds/minutes when we watch the episode might have been ten or fifteen mins. when it was recorded. As for the wild style jokes battle, I do think they prepare some ahead of time to poke fun at specific people, because otherwise why do they always call out a specific person to battle? If they were making those up on the spot, I'd think they'd just crack on whoever happened to be standing there.

I talked to a cast member who is a local comedian. He says they shoot 90 minutes of stuff a show, so obviously a huge chunk of it gets cut.

For things like the songs they do get a little time to prepare, so that's how they have the lyrics and choreography and what not worked out. But it's a short amount of time they have to get everything together once they got the theme.

The thing about improv/freestyling, whcih I love to do, if you've worked with the same people a long time you can sense what they are gonna say before they say it which makes you able to say the same ending word of a rhyme/line.

Thanks for the reply guys. I didn't realize they condense 90 minutes worth of stuff into a 22 minutes episode. In this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FpkzgqHr288 at 0:31 they cut out an entire verse out of the song....Damn...Show would be better as 45 minutes.
