Do all Mancunians live miserable bleak lives?

I ask semi-facetiously. But if your only insight into the life of Manchester residents comes from the British television and film industry it does look uniformly bleak. Is this the London view of Manchester being projected onto the characters they write? It almost seems like a happy contented resident of that city would be a lonely outcast. "There's no place for joy here mate. Move along now".

This is the reality of life for some people, not all. This is what is called "reality drama". English playwrights do not use the formulaic BS used by american writers.
American audiences demand "nice start, sad middle, happy ending". Live if not like that anywhere except in the minds of poor script writers who are only chasing ratings.
British audiences are more mature and realistic. Maybe american writers should spend time in New Orleans or Chicago, Detroit, the Bronx, Harlem or the poor districts of may american cities.
Get a grip of REAL LIFE, and then you can comment on what is real drama and what is pandering tot he ratings industry

I'd say the majority of humans have miserable, bleak lives.
We just don't usually make TV shows about it.

You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.
