Why her? "Theres some things you dont talk about" Spoilers

When I saw the ending, all I could think about is why Kelly? She was the only normal one. Kelly encounters every main character in this film and is basically ignored by each one. She is always trying to be positive or console them but they just ignore her and concentrate on their own problems. When viewing this, we don't think much of it because compared to everyone else, we don't see any flaw in her. That's what makes this such a well directed movie.

What I believe I missed, is the fact that no matter how bad the others had it, they all had someone to confide in but also kept their secrets. As I believe two characters put it, "There's some things you don't talk about".

Melody, to an extent, shared her pregnancy with the girls in the restroom but couldn't tell anyone who's child it was.

Marcus had the other Homosexual kid (forgive me for forgetting his name) to be open to, but still couldn't tell his friends or girlfriend he was gay.

The homosexual kid was able to confide in his counselor. But only had come out to him and his parents. (I think)

Steven's parents were helping him through his peeing issues and being supportive. However he didn't want to burden them with tough times at school.

Marcus' girlfriend had her friend and Melody's brother had his parents but also had his secret with his sister.

All of these people eventually broke down at some point in the film. The pressure was too much to take but they always had someone there for them. Although we didn't know much about her, it's apparent that Kelly didn't have that someone and during her breakdown she made a mistake that too me she regretted. It sounded as though she was muttering "help me."

"Need, that's a bigger word than love"
