which character did you sympathize with the most?

my first choice would have to be the obvious one - i choose kelly. the whole entire movie, you see her interact with some characters and they constantly brush her off. you don't even know she's so alone. it came as a huge shock to me when she committed suicide because i thought it would be one of the main 6 centric characters shown. she was like a ghost and i felt her loneliness at the end.

next i would pick melody. i was disgusted at the scene where her brother raped her. she was so angelic and innocent and it was like her brother completely ripped her apart when he did that. i wish there was closure for her character at the end.

last but not least, i really wanted to hug steven. it sucked that he was made fun of because of a medical condition he couldn't control. and i wanted to hug kelly for being nice to him. the teachers gave him so much *beep* and i wanted to punch them all. steven is not a bad person!! he just can't help but be different.

I sympathize most with Kelly, Sean, and Melody (in that order).

FFS, warn people about the spoiler.

mintypoo - why? The title of the thread is pretty obvious .. "which haracter DID you sympathize with the most?" .. not "which character DO YOU THINK YOU WILL sympathize with the most?"

reply

Nonsense, the thread's title is nowhere near obvious.

That's not even the point: Just put the spoiler warning up if you tell the end of the movie, don't start to rationalize why you wouldn't need one. Not too difficult.

THANK YOU.

I am downloading this movie as I type and getting excited about it. I wanted to see other people's opinions about the characters before I started watching, thinking maybe other points of view will open me up to things I might not have seen the first time watching.

But now, lovely. How can someone be so dense as not to put a spoiler warning when there's... A SPOILER.

reply

I'm not sure why you wouldn't expect spoilers, though. If someone sympathizes with a character, they're probably not just going to post the character's name, they're very likely to provide reasons...and those reasons will include in-film actions by and upon said character.

If you want to avoid spoilers, especially for a film that was 5 years old when you went to find and download it, you probably want to avoid the forums altogether until you've watched it.

P.S. Rosebud was a sled.

The title is pretty obvious that the thread will likely end up revealing spoilers as they tend to shape the WHY people would sympathise with various characters....

None of them. I can't sympathise with characters that are clearly 'acted'. No one was believable and the film just drags on and on. I seriously am not taking anyone else's word on here for what film is decent or not. With this and 'The Horseman' both being a huge waste of time, I'd rather not lose anymore of my life on such lifeless drivel.

I'm not here to troll on this film, but just to let others see that this film is not even adequate. I don't want to see people going on about how I must have no feelings or something as stupid as that. I just can't relate to films where the acting is so obvious. Just as how I didn't care for practically everyone in 'Avatar' since its basically all CGI and not real.

While I'm here, there was an obvious mistake in the film. At the start when the girl was talking to the girl in the toilet, you hear a thud. The noise signifies someone collapsing (ie: dead). How come later on in the film when the scene is being carried out, the girl is already on the floor? No one fell. She was crying whilst on the toilet floor.

I think the thud was before she started dying. As in she continued crying on the floor after the other girls left.

I thought it was a nice film. All actors clearly act. And every movie has a blooper here and there. It's not something to discredit the entire film about.

I'd have to sympathize with Steven first... For personal reasons, because my younger brother is similar in appearance and is now a junior in high school. Also for the fact that his situation is a great example of how ignorance can really take its toll; I understand that no one knew about his condition, but then again some people just don't understand. I agree with you, augustskiesx3... I really wanted to give him a hug.

And it was a tough choice between Mel and Steven, but holy crap. Mel's situation is insanely *beep* up. I was hoping to God that it wouldn't be what it was, but I just knew... The first clue was the issue with Marcus' essay, and then after that everything began to fall into place... So terrible.

And of course there's Kelly. Not a lot of people can understand just how hurtful it feels to be ignored all the time. I mean, even Steven, someone himself who's a loner, didn't even so much give her a thanks for that tissue. It doesn't make me feel any less sorry for him; going through so much can make you cold yourself. I'm sure he didn't mean it like that either (dude just got punched in the d*mn face! I wouldn't want to talk to anyone either!)

Anyway... I thought this was a great film.

I emphasized with Steven the most because I have encountered many individuals in my life who have conditions they cannot control and get treated like s*** because of it. It always breaks my heart to see someone be cut from the group just because they're different.

I missed the first 15 minutes of this film and so had no indication that the ending would unfold as it did. I only tuned into the film because IFC didn't have a description for it and so I was curious.

Anyway, for me it is a toss up between Steven and Kelly. Steven because I, too, have a disability that at times causes me to feel like an outcast. Although I have been where Kelly was as well and really the only thing that kept me from taking that step was meeting an individual who really went out of her way everyday to at least say "hi" to me. Still that was a very painful scene to watch.
