The Things That Didn't Suck About It

Every film has its downside, but I watched this on Sunday and thought it was brilliant! I can't tell you how many actor friends I have here in NY who say that want to do just that...A Star Trek parody. I especially liked the fact that the P-Fleet crew were conquerors, and not saviors like Starfleet.

Despite the obvious flaws, which happen in multi-million dollar productions also, and given that it's essentially a few steps above a student film; it really is well written, well acted, and most of all, it is fun to watch. Major compliments to everyone involved with the production, as it really is a cool film!

Since the Sev Trek movie (ok, it was not live action, but 3D rendered), I've always wanted to see a full length sci-fi parody movie again, and I finally have. And SW:ItP delivered with full honors. Crazy finns, you gotta love'em! Looking forward to the next installment!

I though Jari Ahola (Garybrandy) did a fine acting job, he seemed very natural.

Loved it in the end, when he went "I'm absolutely wasted!" and took a sip from the bottle. :)

The only professional actor in StarWreck: In the Pirkinning is the president of Russia, who is a known finnish actor.
Not true. Karoliina Blackburn (the P-Fleet science officer who tells Pirk about maggot holes at the beginning of the movie) is a professional actress who has performed both on stage and on tv and movies (just check her IMDB page.) Jari Ahola (Mikhail Garybrandy) is a professional stage actor, and has been performing at least at Lahti City Theatre and Lappeenranta City Theatre.

Of these three pros, Ahola undoubtedly gives the best performance in SW:ItP. Väänänen is so-and-so, and Blackburn's short visit on the screen seems rather amateurish, for some reason.

Are you sure you're not mixing people up? Blackburn was on the screen only for a few seconds in the beginning. If you're thinking about the helmswoman character in the tight leather outfit, she was played by Tiina Routamaa.

Eh, i dunno. I thought the guy Janos Honkonen, who played *beep* and Festerbester, was pretty damn good. At first, I couldn't even tell that the 2 characters were played by the same actor.

I thought it was well done. Much better than the last two Star Trek films.

I just wish they'd mess around George Lucas' backyard and show him how a real movie is done. Who knows, maybe they can remake the prequels...

Yeah, I gotta agree with you there, as Star Wreck was a lot more fun to watch. In fact I may replace "Star Trek V: The Final Frontier" (my least favorite Trek film) with this one in my DVD collection.

I hated 2 out of 3 of the new Star Wars films too. So I'd love to see these folks in Finland make a sequel and have the P-Fleet against the Empire, or the Rebellion. Naturally, I'm sure the Starships of P-Fleet would win with little difficulty. Since the Starships in Star Trek would lay waste to the Empire in very little time, but that's a different debate isn't it?

One thing I really liked about the character of Garybrandy is how well he imitated the mannerisms of Michael Garibaldi from B5. It's really rather uncanny.

I agree Data. And not just that, but the names they came up with were totally clever too. It's cool that a group of people who speak Finnish as a first language, came up with some really funny plays on the English language to come up with the funny character names.

LOL, the names were so silly! *beep* and Info and all that... everytime we got one(my brother and me anren't exactly crazy about Star Trek) we groaned and laughed simultaniously.

I just got to watch the Star Wreck film that came out before this one. I like the way they maintained the continuity from that film, with the P-fleet crew stranded on Earth and Jeff Cochbrane making first contact with the Vulgars.

I can't wait to see their next film. These guys have great humor and great imagination.

Are you smoking crack, ZetaTauri? You're talking about a civilization with a 25,000-year interstellar history and a million member worlds to draw an infrastructure from. Yeah, I'm sure the 300-year-old, 150-world Federation could roll over that...

You might want to do a little research on SW history before you throw around comments like that.

LOL You might want to do some research yourself. This thread is about "Star Wreck: In the Pirkinning" and I don't want it to become another Star Trek vs Star Wars thread, as there are far too many already.

But I will say this, there is nowhere in any of the films that supports what you said. And additionally, last time I watched "Return of the Jedi" it ended with a bunch of rebels in broken down ships, led by an Admiral that looked like a fish, and a bunch of Ewoks utterly trouncing the Empire without a hell of a lot of effort.

Starfleet ships are faster, more powerful in a variety of ways, and are staffed by people who use tactics and intelligence during battles – something never seen in Star Wars. Star Wars is basically a Good vs Evil story, and special effects driven, pretty, un-intellectual fluff; which admittedly is why more people like it, because you need to have a brain to understand Star Trek. Sorry, my money would be on Starfleet (and by proxy P-Fleet) any day.

Gotta agree with Zeta here, although I grew up with both ST and SW and love them in different ways.

Energia may be the only way we see a Trek vs. Wars type movie too. Since the subject is so popular, it might even be a smart thing to do as their movie would be a hit.
