this movie vs Hotel Rwanda

Which film did you like better?

All those moments ... will be lost ... in time ... like tears in rain.

Haven't seen either. Guess I'll have to take steps to amend that.

I liked Hotel better, even though I guess it is a bit more Hollywoodized.

Since Dallaire worked closely with the people on this film and wasn't even consulted on Rwanda, this film is much closer to what actually happened. That said, I thought Rwanda was a very good film too.

They are both very good, but are very different.

Hotel Rwanda uses the experiences of a person thrust into greatness to tell the very human story of the Rwanda genocide. It is a very accessible film, and seems very realistic. It raised a lot of awareness about genocide in the modern world, and what happened in Rwanda. It shows us what happened, and gets us ready to ask why and how.

Shake Hands With the Devil tells the story from a higher level, and with more of the political background. As it follows a professional soldier and UN peacekeeper, who is an outsider, it has a very different view of the story. It starts to answer the why and how questions.

Both are powerful.

I'd watch Hotel Rwanda first, then Shake Hands With the Devil - maybe as a double feature.

I already watched both the movie, and both of them are great. Hotel Rwanda explained the genocide event from pov of civilian. Unarmed and only equipped with wits and negotiation to survive. While Shake Hands with the Devil showed what happen from the pov of UN. People who has the ability to stop the genocide but unable to do so. Through this film we can see that politics are far more powerful than humanitarian means. Which is true in this world, real and fact. The conflicted between moral and ethic, vs order from the upper, which cause mental breakdown.
