How does this movie stack up to the Bronson original?

So the description of this film looks like a remake of The Mechanic from the 70s starring Charles Bronson. Does Statham compare a pretty well to Bronson? Seems like he is the only action star we have now adays,

a lot of people are going to respond and say the original was better but i saw the remake first, then the original and i am gunna say the remake was waaay better. just a lil bit better plot, great action, great acting from both foster and statham and just an overall better experience for me but like i said, most people will probably disagree.

I haven't seen the original for over 30 years and my recollection is that I was disappointed in the movie; and I think my reaction was because I associated Bronson with all-out action/revenge movies - like Death Wish - whereas the original Mechanic was more a (unexpected) slow-paced psychogical thriller.
The new version is more like the label says - full-on action, stunts and chase scenes.

Not even close;
the original is way better.
Only Ben Foster and Donald Sutherland come out of this well.
Staham is just terrible and the direction sloppy.
The original has an incredible opening, great action scenes, an intelligent plot and one of the best surprise endings ever.

Charles Bronson and Jan-Michael Vincent have a coolness factor and are both easy going in their roles. One likes them although they are killers. One expert and one budding. The original is slower paced but that was the norm and neither character acts as if they are hopped up on caffeine as you see now. Ben Foster's character had emotional tantrums and well I thought was a psychological wreck. Jason Statham I think has become stereotyped as the good fellow who does bad things to bad people in his roles to be accepted as a professional killer.

Agreed above Foster and Sutherland did extremely well in their roles. I think some of the killings could have been better and more in line with the modern conception of what a professional killer does.

Too bad they wrecked a GTO for a pointless scene.

Killing the two leads in the original brought the film full circle. Having Statham survive was well too much of a Statham movie myth. Even John Wayne died in a number of his films.

The original deserved a bigger budget that the remake got.

I like the motivations in the original better.

Jan Michael Vincent is full of vanity and hubris and that is his undoing. He wants to be "the best". There is no other connection.

In the remake, it's about revenge. Just muddies the movie. It's slicker but in the end it cheapens it, no matter the budget or the flashy action.
