Couple in the Park

I absolutely LOVE this movie; it's one of my favorite "found-footage" films of all time. I completely fell in love with Ana Claudia Talancon, and Colin Hanks turned in an unforgettable performance as well.

My question is, when Doug first spots Amy at the park with her dog and she begins tearing up when she sees the couple making out, was that her ex-boyfriend with a new girl or was she just upset because she missed that kind of intimacy herself? I read a review somewhere that stated the guy was her ex and that was why she started crying, but I always just figured their PDA triggered her loneliness and had her missing her old guyfriend.
