was that Doug on the phone?

are we supposed to believe that it was Doug calling Amy pretending to be the restaurant manager wanting to sell her paintings for her? It sure sounded like Doug's voice and we never do see Amy having the meeting with the manager like she said she would on the phone, so... it kinda left that plot point open. The audience can guess that it was obviously Doug who bought all of the paintings from the restaurant as a way to make Amy believe that things were looking up and she had Doug to thank for that. However, the film doesn't explain whether or not Doug faked the whole restaurant thing entirely or if that was real. Any insight on this would be GREAT.

No, it wasn't Doug. That was a real manager from the restaurant. Her pictures were quite good, I don't see any problem for someone who manages some hip art cafe to be interested in her paintings.
In such extremly realistic film you would expect Amy to go there, talk to manager and give him her paintings, no?
And how did she know that someone bought them?
It was probably Doug who bought the paintings, but the restaurant is real.

but how do you KNOW that? I mean, we never see her actually go to the restaurant and hand the paintings over to the manager or talk face to face with him. She still had that horrible rash Doug gave her so isn't it possible that she used Doug as a go-between to drop the paintings off at the restaurant and then he turned around and pretended to be the manager again and say "oh, by the way, all the paintings sold!" I find it just as possible that was a very good lie concocted by Doug to further gain her trust and make her more dependent on him. At least, that is just my theory.

The manager asks for her to come and drop off the paintings, have a meeting.
As she must take the paintings somewhere, and get money from somewhere, it is a restaurant that serves as the answer to this. But, its Doug that most likely buys them all.

Thats my take on it.
"come with me if you want to live".

A scene further into the movie she tells someone that she is talking to on the phone that she sold three paintings. I also thought it was him pretending to be the manager of the restaurant until she told whoever she was talking to that she sold her paintings.
