This is not an easy movie to like... (spoilers)

And that's not to say its a bad movie, because it's exceptionally well made and acted, but it's not a movie that is easy to like simply because there are no redeeming qualities for the viewer. Nothing happens that makes the torture and perversion worth enduring. We're subjected to over an hour of watching a young woman's life being destroyed piece by piece through the lens of a pervert up to the point of her losing her life to him.

Now, I don't think every film requires a happy ending to be likable, but a film like this so heavily built on emotion and dialogue should have a redeeming quality to make up for the roller coaster it puts the viewer through.

The alternate ending where she ends up being alive after the murder attempt and kills him would've been better, and given this movie some re-watchability. Knowing he got away with it unscathed, makes this a film you can only really see once. Why go through all that again?

Perhaps the movie could offer insight for male viewers who don't spend much time thinking about the *beep* women deal with, or who don't believe this sort of thing actually happens? I mean, look at how many posters on this board are defending Doug as a "normal, shy guy."
