Silly movie

The camera work is fine but the actual story is not really any good. And New Providence is certainly a very small town/port even for those days. Also, the film is far too long, over 2 hours, it would have been better if it had been shorter. This movie is based very, very loosely on the actual Blackbeard story. An American work of fantasy.

Directed by a Brit, I might point out. So I'd say it was probably a joint work of fantasy.

This movie was way too long and it was not very good.

99% of the time a hero is someone who is too cold, tired & hungry to give a damn.

reply

I've heard that quote before...but where is it from?

reply

It from an episode of M*A*S*H.

99% of the time a hero is someone who is too cold, tired & hungry to give a damn.

reply

Aaaah yes...now I remember. Hawkeye said it didn't he? Good quote.

reply

This is the whole quote.

"Frank, do you know what a hero is? Ninety-nine times out of a hundred, he's somebody who's tired enough and cold enough and hungry enough not to give a damn. I don't give a damn."-Hawkeye

99% of the time a hero is someone who is too cold, tired & hungry to give a damn.

reply

It's a mini-series, not a movie.

There is a similar TV film with James Purefoy as Blackbeard, slightly better than this one, but both are undistinguished.

"I want you to want to save my life ..." Benjamin Linus

Films today are made shorter because people today have more difficulty focusing. This is a fact, not a joke. It's also why no shot in a newer film is over 2 seconds long.

reply

Just checked 2 movies I had on my computer. This is really true.. A single shot lasts to approximately 6-7 seconds but most of them are really short. Except the kissing scenes which are an exception.
