Why is that in all these romantic comedies...

....the person with the main issues is always the guy? The girl is the one who always seems to have all of her stuff together, and the guy needs to get past his issues so the two can be together. In the beginning Violet is portrayed as kind of a nut, but in the end you see she's actually just a free spirit who is very much in control and knows exactly what she wants. She's just trying to 'train' Neil.

So my point is - this is so far from reality. Most girls I know are sitting on a mountain of issues, and it is as much the girl's issues as the guy's issues that lead to destruction of the relationship.

Meh, I don't know if girls are usually the ones that "have all of her stuff together", but it does seem in many cases that women tend to try and change men when beginning a relationship. I know it doesn't happen in every case, but it definitely does happen quite a bit.

I did find her selfish at times. When he was watching the basketball game and she said, "That they could break into a high school gym and play basketball."

I found that attitude to be selfish in a way. It came off that she can't appreciate anything unless it's her doing it. So she just has admiration for herself and not others.
