So it kinda sucked

And I never ever post about movies sucking but I kept it out from blockbuster an extra two days to see it and it was barely watchable for me. And I tend to like unconventional films and foreign cinema... but I was bored by this and found the film to be tedious and cliched like some indie 1990s throwback with in the case of some performers, inauthentic performances. It was just blech... not terrible but bland and silly and generic.

If I didn't care for fun and such, I'd probably amount to much.

I got my copy from Blockbuster yesterday and I LOVED IT!!!! I watched it over and over again. Another Cillian favorite!!

You love smoking crack, don't you. You can just tell. All that crack gives you the attention span of a goldfish, which is why you think good movies suck, and try to, y'know, justify yourself by saying "ohh I love those quirky unconventional movies blah blah".

Oh well. Everyone's entitled to their opinion. But don't back halfway out with some schtick like that.

I have to agree with the OP... to a degree. I won't say it sucked, but it started off a bit quirky and I laughed... but after the 1 hour mark it really unravelled into obscurity. If you like it, that's great... but it is FAR from brilliant. And can't speak for the OP, but I have one of the greatest movie attention spans ever... I can watch movie after movie (which is why I was originally endeared to the characters). I wonder how many people liked this movie that weren't already obsessed with Cillian or Lucy?

reply

Well, 1 for sure. I thought it was great. I was wary when Neil began playing into Violet's movie game with the underground casino, but because it only happened that one time it wasn't a big problem. It was a good job on everyone's part.

Wait, so using the "you're on drugs", "you don't get it", "{insert insult regarding attention span/I.Q./learning disability}" responses isn't a schtick? A tired one at that?

The rationale some people use. It truly is funny.

Agreed OP. I've wanted to see this movie ever since I saw it filming in the park a few years ago but it ended up being a prime example of when bad movies happen to good actors. How Cillian Murphy could go from summer blockbusters like "Batman Begins" and critically acclaimed Palme d'Or winners like "The Wind That Shakes The Barley" to this generic, micro-budget romantic comedy is beyond me. It seriously felt like an over-extended student film. How they got such an accomplished cast (even Lucy Liu doesn't deserve this) I'll never understand.

Who cares CILLIAN was in and that's all that matters to me!

^Okay alittle bias. I agree Cillian Murphy is a babe and that was what attracted me to the movie, but I also watch for the quality. That is also what you should look at.

The movie overall to me was "ehh okay" not something I would watch over. The story line was a bit droll and I did laugh a few times, but I thought it was going no where. The romance between Neil and Violet didn't really register to me, I love Lucy Liu and definetly Cillian, but I just don't think this movie was that good.

I don't think it sucked completley, but it felt a little unfinished. It's like a rough draft that should have been tuned up before being made. It had it's funny moments like when the girl broke up with him and he went through his crying phase that was hilarious to me. I would have given it a 3 out of 10. Good acting, semi good story.

Wow, completely random. I don't remember writing this review. I don't even remember thinking the movie "sucked". I recently saw Murphy's film "The Wind That Shakes The Barley" which I thought was incredibly moving and very good. I feel like I have to see this Detectives film sometime to see if I 'really" think it's that bad now.

To be honest, I couldn't finish it. I like the actors and the plot seemed okay, but overall it fell flat. I think it was the dialogue. There were many funny moments that became tired or drab because the dialogue went on and on for the scene (what's immediately coming to mind are the many scenes with the video store groupies and where the two main characters are walking down the quiet street talking, but not having anything too important to say.)

Another thing is that it took awhile to say what the movie was going for, if at all. Almost like watching a feature-length episode of Seinfeld, only there isn't anything "funny nothing" happening really.

I mean, not gonna lie I only saw it for Cillian, but I absolutely loved it when it was over. The end was pretty off for me...and I didn't like Lucy. But maybe i'm just jealous..........
