Terrible Film

This movie was not "The Smurfs". It in no way stuck true to the original series. First of all, why did they need to make up a new smurf and add him to their group? All Gutsy smurf is is a Scottish stereotype. There is nothing unique or funny about him. There are plenty of other original smurfs that they could have used instead. Dreamy Smurf would have been perfect for the role!

And the character portrayl was just terrible! Not once in the movie did Grumpy Smurf mutter his signature catch phrase, " I hate.......".
They got Clumsy Smurf all wrong, and Brainy Smurf never once in the movie acted arrogant to the rest of the Smurfs. The whole plot has been done a thousand times! The classic " fish out of water" story. It was fine in Enchanted, but after that movie it seemed like every childrens movie used the same template.

The fact that the sequel is taking place in New York again is ridiculous! They could make an entertaining movie without having to rely on casting modern day humans in the film. That would be like going to watch a Muppet film just for the humans.

The Smurfs are beloved childhood characters, but some way down the road they became a sub culture. They deserve to be introduced to a new generation, but at the same time they should stick true to the original series, because thats what made the Smurfs great in the first place. Changing it to something totally different does not make it the same. Obviously all the studio cared about was making money off this film, instead of actually making it good. Children deserve to watch something better.

I totally agree with you. People who have no understanding, respect or even knowledge of 80's cartoons SHOULD STOP MAKING CGI MESSES OF THEM!

Why couldn't they have set the movie in Smurf village? Instead they chose to put it in NY and picked a story that has already been done a gazillion times! Just after 10 minutes, one can predict the rest of the movie ridiculously easily. (just like "Avatar", another CGI garbage movie!)

And as you correctly pointed out, what was the use of introducing a new Smurf? It's not like there was a shortage of Smurfs in the original cartoon.

Except I Disagree with you about avatar, that was a great film, unlike the crappy smurfs.

Well that is a matter of opinion and I respect yours even though I do not agree with it. But just for arguments sake, could you tell us what was "great" about Avatar besides the CGI?

Mr McGee, don't make me angry. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry!

The Story, the performances, the music, everything, avatar was top notch and one of the best films of all time in my opinion, that's what a film should be unlike the crappy smurfs movie which lacked of all it.

Regarding "Avatar":

The Story: was a COMPLETE and UTTER RIP-OFF of "Atlantis: The Lost Empire", "Pocahontas" and "Dances With Wolves". One of the things that "Avatar" has been UNIVERSALLY criticized for is its unoriginal and predictable story. Maybe you are very young and have not seen the MANY movies that "Avatar" copied. So it's story is NOT "top-notch".

The Performances: were BAD. Sam Worthington has been criticized by everyone (including himself) as being a bad actor. The rest of the characters were pretty one-dimensional, cliched and generic.. So the performances are NOT "top-notch".

The Music: was not bad. It's not "top notch" or a masterpiece but it's pretty good.

The CGI: Yes, this was the ONLY thing that was "top notch".

So you see, "Avatar" is in NO WAY a "great" film. Not even close. Perhaps a more correct statement would be that you really liked "Avatar". There is nothing wrong with that. But calling it "one of the best films of all time" JUST because you liked it, is wrong.

Avatar is still a classic,

You're one of VERY few people who think that.

And how many animated features have YOU made? It's hilarious how many people sit in their armchairs and criticize when they have NEVER been in the business. Yet they seem to know better than the professionals.

I was a big fan of The Smurfs as a child and I loved this movie. It doesn't have to be the same as the cartoon to be entertaining. It was cute and funny. I enjoyed it and give it 8/10.

I Think it was absolutely one of the worst movies of all time, one of the worst films I've ever seen
1/10.
