changes to movie on DVD

Has anybody else noticed that the DVD version has been editted a bit since the theatrical version? I noticed a couple of things that were editted out, especially near the end of the movie.

OMG YES!

I noticed that the KISS was cut short.

That is absolutely ridiculous! Why in the world would they cut that scene short?!? I think we need to let the powers that be know that the movie should not have been edited for DVD. Good grief!

reply

My friend said it was the exact same scene, but I swear it was cut short.
Maybe it's just me...I don't know but I could've sworn that kiss was longer!!!

I saw the movie online months ago and the scene where she was trying to guess his instrument was longer. It made me mad that they edited that because it was one of my favorite parts.

I saw this movie first on youtube and I really liked it...

But when I bought it on DVD, I noticed it was editted differently! Yes some of the scenes were cut shorter, they dubbed over some words/swears, and they cut out what was a really funny bit! Some people have asked the poster what version it was, but to my knowledge, they haven't answered.

I got mine at Wallmart and I noticed it said "family approved" on the back of the DVD. Maybe that has something to do with it? Or maybe I saw the UK version?

I'm bummed!

UGH
i was SO FREAKING UPSET
especially about the instrument scene being all cut up!
SO FRUSTRATING!!!
do you think they'll come out with the correct version maybe?!

reply

I don't understand why the movie was edited, what's the point of it? I noticed in the beginning of the movie that many shots were cut by a second or two and some small parts of dialog were taken out. It's like they were trying to make the movie shorter by cutting out bits and pieces here and there. It is ridiculous!

Much as I love the movie, the whole thing is ridiculous. I'm pretty sure the reason they messed with it so much is the whole marketing or distribution issue that, from what I understand, has plagued it from the get-go. They're half-marketing it as a kid's movie. I went in with a few friends to rent it from Blockbuster, and couldn't find it anywhere. Problem was, we just didn't look in the children's section. Whoever came up with the idea of promoting it as a children's film is ridiculous. I love that the previews too are of 1. Twilight, and 2. some ridiculous cartoon about flies in space. I think there was a BIT of confusion on the part of the distribution company, correct me if I'm wrong. But it just bugs me to no end that they STILL can't make up their mind about what to do with this movie. I think it had the potential to be a LOT bigger than it's ended up being, but someone somewhere along the line screwed up big time.

I saw it on youtube as well and it was different, but not majorly so...yes the instrument scene is shorter, but some other things don't need to be in there....I don't even remember seeing some scenes when I saw it in the theatre. My only wish was that the dvd had deleted / extended scenes on it, that way we don't miss anything. On this website it says it is 1 hour 42 minutes, but my dvd is 1 hour 30 minutes...without credits the America dvd is missing about 5 minutes of footage, which sounds like a lot, but actually isn't....why they messed with it at all we will never know!! UGH!! Still maddening, but I LOVE THIS FILM!!!!

SO many changes!! the music is completely different, much less cussing, a whole scene was cut out that didn't involve any of the characters but i think it is Penelope's grandparents, a scene of reese talking about her brother is cut short, the scene with him playing the instruments is much different. Also there's a scene where Penelope writes a letter to Edward but i don't remember this at all. Also the kids tease another kids at the end more. I'm watching it online now. It might be like a chinese version. i don't know. I wish i had seen it more than once in the theatres.

They must've seen the market for a children's movie as much bigger. But i do hope some where there will be the original version on DVD or at least include the original deleted scenes. :( sadness

I cannot believe they made so many changes. They cut little bits from everywhere, removed whole scenes. I hate that they shortened the kiss! Why would they do this?

I bought the movie because I liked it. Now, I have a movie that has been hacked away at.

reply

I know, I hate that the DVD is so altered. ESPECIALLY the music scene where he's dancing around and singing. That was the best scene to me. The one on the dvd is so not cute. LUCKILY I still have the REAL version on my computer! :D

umm ya so i watched the music scene that is on youtube and it is entirely DIFFERENT then when I watched it online months ago and the dvd. I think this is how they filmed it but cut it shorter to make it better.

one of my favorite scenes was when they showed the announcement of penelope's birth and aunt ella's affair was found out and the uncle ran across the table and threw himself out the window screaming "damn you ella!!"

i've only seen the australian version online, but i want to watch it on my tv. does anyone know where i can download it? or would anyone that owns the australian version be kind enough to rip it for me and send it to me so i could download and watch it? i'll love you forever if you do, i just HAVE to own this version.
