Maggie Martin: Film center honors 'Homeland Security' director
November 5, 2006

"Homeland Security" director George Gallo stepped off of a movie set in a Shreveport neighborhood early in the evening Oct. 27 just long enough to accept the Louisiana Film Award from the Robinson Film Center.

Gala chair Betty Henderson presented it at the beginning of "A Night in Noir City" at Sam's Town Casino & Hotel.

The event for 600 was expected to gross $100,000, said center chief John M. Grindley III. Super Stars sponsors were center namesake Bill Robinson and Sam's Town.

Gallo received the accolade for contributions to film in Louisiana, Grindley said. "He has also filmed in the state 'Local Color' that has received rave reviews on the film festival circuit and announced at the gala that he will make another film in Shreveport next year," Grindley said.

"Thank you for the honor. My two best experiences for making movies have been in Louisiana," said the blue-jeaned Gallo. "We'll be filming until 6 a.m.," Gallo added, as he dashed off the stage.
