I mean according to everyone it's the most advanced country in the world yet every other country in the world has seen this movie and we still haven't. I mean is there a reason why it's not being released in the US. I for one am dying to see it.
I'm bringing Sexy Back That's why all you mother *beep* don't know how to act
It is a very good movie. I live in Australia and unfortunately my cinema didn't even get the film, I had to go out of town to see it. Even though the premiere was here, the was hardly any hype what-so-ever.

It would be a flop here, they don't even want to waste the money for the prints. I thought the movie sucked, it had some very charming and entertaining scenes here and there but overall it had a very straight-to-dvd feeling minus the exceptional visuals.
well not because it sucked! but probably becuase the last two magician movies didnt do so well, they were sure this one was gonna be the weaker of the three so not to even bother with it... the one with christian bale, and the one with Edward Norton was enough I guess they should of shelved it for a couple years before releasing it so soon, but they probably thought magician films are hot right now...
also both those stars can not headline a movie alone! and even with them both together its not really a big cinema draw.. great for DVD.. and should sell well
I watched the movie a week ago. I live in Greece and despite the harsh reviews I have read here and there, I just had to see a movie about Houdini played by Guy Pearce. The guy is brilliant. Anyways what is the point in deciding a movie before watching it? I have come out of a theatre many times asking myself "Have I seen the same movie me and the critics?" Therefore I am not going to comment on this movie right here. I will only say this: If someone considers the tons of crap that get released in the US just for being pop corn entertainment, I think this movie deserves at least to be released and discussed. It is good cinema. If it has flaws we can talk about them. But trash it as if it does not deserve to exist...hmmm...it sounds at least weird to me. Or maybe it is just that it is not an american product???
If you are living in 2008 and are on the internet, seeing this movie shouldn't be a problem, regardless of the country you live in. Through the wonders of the internet, I am an American who will be watching this movie.
There's only one reason this hasn't been released widely in the U.S. and that's Harvey Weinstein. The link to his announcement is right here on the IMDb page.
Weinstein announced the creation of a new label specifically for the dumping of films he decided he didn't like. "Death Defying Acts" was released onto only two screens in the entire country because that's what Harvey felt like doing.
So apparently its only going to be available on DVD. Or presumably at some point on airplanes, in hotels, and via pay-per-view. Eventually I supposed it'll end up on cable and network, where you can try to watch it around the commercial breaks and on-screen ads and logos. Personally I prefer my movies in a big dark room with some strangers, on a big screen where we can all experience the same story at the same time. But Harvey has the say-so, not me.
I think its just a thing he's got against Zeta-Jones. She married an older man and took herself off the sex-bomb market before Hollywood got a chance to squeeze every last dollar out of the marketing campaign they had planned for her. She's too smart for them and this is their revenge. Which makes those of us who are Guy Pearce fans have to really scramble to catch yet another of his movies.
I agree. Guy Pearce gave an impressive performance and Zeta-Jones was more than capable in her role. A good film almost deprived from audiences because of show biz politics. I'm sure Harvey Weinstein would be surprised to know that we had good films in this country before he appeared on the scene. We may have even better films after he leaves the scene.
The movie wasn't good enough for wide release in America. Standards are a little higher here, whereas the rest of the world is pretty uncompetative when it comes to producing films. Name me one good Canadian film. Didn't think so.
