This is supposed to be set in the 80s?

I felt I was watching a movie set in the 50s for some reason.

How would anybody mistake this for a film set in the 1950's? That's about as random as it gets.

In small ways the 1980's *did* return to the 1950's: bands like the Stray Cats and leather jackets were fashionable, and Cold War good vs. evil was back in style, after the moral ambiguity of the late 1960's and 1970's.

reply

Be that as it may, the movie wasn't made in a 50's style.
"Should a Congressman be in a hot tub with strippers and blow?"
"Oh dude, I'm totally high."
He was wearing a Members Only jacket to the airport
As the other posters noted, the music, the hair, the clothes
Nothing said 50's about this movie

Like I said, in *small* ways. The rejection of the moral relativism of the 1960s and 1970s, however, was very much there.

reply

Yes, I'm sure that was what the OP was referring to. The rejection of moral relativism.
