The story is supposed to parallel Egypt and escape of the Jews from the pharaoh

I've watched the movie a bunch of times and to me it seems to have a lot of Old Testament allusions and events that resemble the exodus story of the Bible. New Testament has some influence on it because of the apocalypse that revelations book predicts.
Has anyone noticed this? Makes sense to me since Mel Gibson is somewhat religious and has interest in Bible themes.
