Good movie yet thought confusing

I am currently watching this movie on BBC and I find it entertaining and well done although really misplaced in facts, They clearly portrait a Mayan city, culture tradition even costumes but behavior is clearly as violent as the Aztecs are frequently described. You could simply assume this is the Toltec civilization who was really close to both cultures but the ones who go in contact with the conquerors were the Aztecs. Even though it is a great production in my opinion it is really confusing.

Well it's a case of the old story isn't it? It's not a documentary. It's always had some saying it wasn't accurate in its depictions of Mayan life, while there have been others ready to step forward and argue the case that it was. It's really the nature of a historically fictional film such as this, that such debates will occur. 🐭

" Initially established during the Pre-Classic period (c. 2000 BC to AD 250), according to the Mesoamerican chronology, many Maya cities reached their highest state of development during the Classic period (c. AD 250 to 900), and continued throughout the Post-Classic period until the arrival of the Spanish."

In the movie they are well characterized and during the fantastic visual shots of the sacrifice at the top of piramyd the main sorcerer claims for the god "kukulkán"...the mexica (because the therm aztec is wrong) name for the same god its Quetzacoatl!

So, they look and act like the maya civilization.

The fact this movie has a mayan, aztec, mohican, egypt or ANY civilization of ancient history is irrelevant.

The story is not set in those civilization, but about the DECLINE of A civilization, the way they dominated the masses and how the casts where established.

This movie could be set in the future even, with fictional civilizations, and will have the same meaning. Just change the spanish vessel for UFO and there you have the apocalypse.

Wasting time trying to guess which civilization is portraited, is like wasting time finding the literal meaning of a metaphore.

This movie its about the decline of the mayan civilization, not another one.
