FILM- THE CLOSEST WE GET TO TIME TRAVEL...

Apocalypto is cinematic entertainment at its highest level- a mesmerising dive back through time. This experience is the closest we currently have to time travel.

I would put it in my top three period dramas:

(1) Barry Lyndon
(2) Apocalypto
(3) Master And Commander

Yeah, a Crowe film- deal with it. M&C is a wonderful film. You can call it a buddy movie about seafaring bro's etc etc. You're probably right- I don't care, it's a really good movie.

Honourable mentions for The Duellists, High Plains Drifter, and the amazing and under-rated Little Big Man.

Any other films you feel convincingly transported your imagination to another time?

'Flesh + Blood' & 'Quest for Fire'.

Flesh And Blood... not familiar with this... looked it up and there are many productions with this name.

Which one do you recommend?

Le Vie en Rose

Just mesmerizing; no wonder Cotillard won that Oscar.

Agreed, thats a good example... that was also a massively Oscar worthy performance.

The Bounty is very good too. It takes place on one of the islands of the pacific ocean where a British ship headed by captain played by Anthony Hopkins and one of commanders played by Mel Gibson makes contact. Then as the name suggests there is a mutiny since it is based in the real events in which the movie the Mutiny on The Bounty is also based on. Very inpressive movie that has philosophical and moral themes.

It is only for mature audiences however since it has way too naked women, tits, and some sex. Not gratuitous but not for family viewing.

How about 'Conan the Barbarian'? That movie has such an ancient, raw atmosphere which I always found mesmerizing.

reply

I agree. Conan the barbarian definitely feels like going back in ancient time.
