One of the best action films ever. Period.

I have seen the film countless times since its release and I like it more each time I watch it. Gibson's characterization, tone, and pacing is astonishing. After all these years, I still can not wrap my head around how much of a mad genius Gibson is behind the camera.

I am a movie obsessor. The amount of action films I have seen are countless. I have seen every Kurosawa movie etc. and I still believe Apocalypto earns a spot right next to Kurosawa's action movies.

It guts me to know Gibson will pretty much never make another movie again because his directing has become more and more refined with each movie he makes.

Does anyone else share the insane amount of love for this movie as I do?

This is my favorite film, and I'm a major movie fan.

Apocalypto grew on me on my second viewing, and it never let go.

yes, that slow motion scene where he slides under a horizontal axe blow, and still gets winged on his temple, grabs the other axe and bashes his head and its spurting blood out of the side --- Mel Gibson knows how to make *beep* amazing action scenes. Also, think of how many movies directly copied the pre-battle speeches and running clash between two armies from Braveheart.

I wouldn't say he won't make another movie again.

He was just recently talking to the president of Ireland about filming there (although I'm not sure what the film he has in mind is), and he still has a viking epic that he wants to direct.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Gibson meeting with the president of Ireland to film The Maccabees? The movie he was caught on tape screaming and freaking out over? If that is the case, then no, that movie will never get made. His viking movie, Berserker, is the movie I want to see him make most of all. But do you really think someone would give him the sufficient funding and power to make a viking epic in old Norse? Dicaprio was set to star in Berserker originally, with his own money being put into the film, but he has pulled out since.

The movie he was screaming about was actually the Viking film, he was irate at the co-writer he had hired because he was not doing the work he was paid to do...the writer recorded it most likely intending to use it as something to blackmail Gibson with.

If he really wanted to, he still has enough of his own funds to make the Viking epic himself.
I really can't see DiCaprio working for that type of film, I'm rather glad he pulled out.

Article I posted link to shows he was screaming over The Maccabees, with the screenwriter catching him on tape.

The OP's title says it all.

Mr. Gibson is a genius period.

To tape him without his knowledge is disgusting and illegal.

this film is a masterpiece!

I agree, Gibson is both a great actor and a very creative director. I would watch anything he is involved in.

Yup. He is mad genius allright

The idea of him not directing again guts into me as well. It is very depressing to think that we are being deprived of a genius director, who would've thought Gibson from the 80s, the action star could have such potential? Gibson can't be forgiven but Woody Harrison and Roman Polanski are critically acclaimed, appreciated, and are forgiven regardless. It seems according to Hollywood, Gibson saying pejorative words against an ethnic group is worse and unforgivable than raping/molesting children, how crazy is that?
