Where are the Mayans? These are AZTECS!

Christ, Gibson, try to be historically accurate for once! Can't you even tell them apart?

Why are you here if you haven't seen the movie yet?

reply

It wasn't either
They were speaking mayan, were mayan, and in the jungle
but in the city they were doing a sort of maybe aztec-ish sacrifice
it didn't really make sense
Gibson should have done better with the accuracy

The Mexica (Aztec) lived on a floating island lake city, Mexico-Tenochtitlan (Mexico City), and had different costumes, art style, spoke Nahuatl, etc.

reply

Mayans did sacrifice people, even if not on the scale of Aztecs, there is no doubt about it. The claims to the contrary is utterly ridiculous revisionism.

Would you consider burning someone at the stake a human sacrifice?

reply

If it is done as a human sacrifice, then of course it is a human sacrifice. Both the Aztecs and Mayans had several different ways of sacrificing humans, depending on time of year and the deity being honoured. Whether it was cutting out the heart, decapitation, strangulation, immolation, burying alive, throwing victims off a cliff, drowning, shooting with arrows, starvation... The Aztecs were arguably more inventive in their methods, but the Mayans certainly practised the iconic heart extraction, in addition to a handful other methods.
