Renewal Info

Fox on Monday announced the renewal of the dance competition show for a 13th season in which the contestants — between the ages of 8 and 13! — will be paired with all-star dancers.
Host Cat Deeley is slated to return, along with judges Nigel Lythgoe, Paula Abdul and Jason Derulo.
The new season of SYTYCD premieres Monday, May 30. Auditions begin Feb. 27 in Los Angeles.

Not happy.

I predict that the ratings are going to tank, so instead of bringing back the original format and getting rotating guest judges (I dislike Jason so much), that the show is going to get canceled instead.

Exactly. Every time they changed the show, I think they made it worse. Remember when it got a fall slot? (Can't remember which season that was.) Anyway, I think that was the beginning of the end. The camaraderie absolutely disappeared, and that's part of what set this show apart from the other reality competition show, and also highlighted how dancing itself is so collaborative.

As for Derulo...what's he doing on that show in the first place? Abdul isn't terrible, but I'd much rather have Mary back and have the choreographers rotate as the third judge each week.

Also, the producers should all go back and watch the first couple seasons, when they actually were hard on the dancers instead of heaping out underserved praise.

Of course, it's all academic for me because I'm really not interested in seeing kids dance, and how the heck are you going to have a sexy, romantic jazz or contemporary number between a 13 year old girl and a grown man? That's just creepy, so a whole form of dancing is going to be gone. (This is the same if you reverse the sexes, too.) And a nine year old shaking his/her hips with an adult in a Latin ballroom number?

No thank you. Seriously. No thank you at all.

SYTYCD, you're dead to me.

reply

I like Jason, but I know a lot of people do not. He does have an extensive dance background, though and that is why he is there.

reply

I'm happy with the format. No more voting for a couple only because you 'ship them.

There are a lot of talented kids out there, so it's nice to give a chance.

reply

Ina, willing to give the show a chance. Especially the new format.

reply

So long, SYTYCD. It was a nice ride. *waves good-bye* I will not be watching the season. I love to watch children dance, but I can do that at my daughter's dance competitions and recitals. I don't need to spend time watching them on tv. Big mistake, Fox.

reply

They just keep driving the nail further into the coffin, don't they? Why don't they just cancel the darn show? They are obviously out of ideas. I guess kids are cheaper to produce.

That's not what she said

I agree they shutdown the 18-30 range, but they should have stick with 20-30 age range in order to gain ratings, rather than 8-14 age range.

But it looks like there is a bad US west coast port economic breakdown incident going on along the US Pacific area and it did forced changes on everything in that entire Pacific coastline and also includes both FOX network and this dance reality show by too much bad affection.

That type of incident wasn't the faults of both FOX and SYTYCD, it was the US west coast port's fault, nothing else. But that does NOT mean SYTYCD of US will be cancelled officially yet, since the dance reality shows are growing more popular permanently.

I know I will be taking a 2-year hiatus from watching this show, since the 8-14 age range will be applied in both 13th and 14th seasons of this show. This 20-30 age range would have been a better choice in order to gain more ratings and override being a FOX teen marketing show officially and strongly, but the 8-14 age range is confirmed to override that economic breakdown incident. But another reason why the age range will 8-14 instead because it has to do with some kind of big summer event that will disrupt in the middle of this show's 13th season.

SYTYCD will bounce back to its originality in the future and it will promised not to get cancelled right away. There could a chance that Mary Murphy will return to SYTYCD ASAP as a fourth judge, no doubt about that.

IDK it's going to be weird seeing the All stars paired up with 8 year olds! With this young of an age range I'm guessing they are going for a combo of Dance Moms and Masterchef Junior.

Why would I ever want to watch 8 year old's dance?

I was figuring this would be the last season of the show anyhow so I thought maybe they were go back to the original format the normal age range everything like that none of this crap of stage Vs Street so instead you do kids not saying they are not talented but let's face it the level of dancing won't be that great and on someone's post on the form the adults with these kids kinda iffy also DAMN them for not bringing back Mary they kept the same 2 judges at least they could have replace them. Hopefully we get some guest judges in. I think they want to make sure the nails heading in his coffin. There goes the dream of Atleast letting the show go out with a great big bang instead of this freaking whimper they're going to put into it.
