Did Yoji not speak Japanese to his daughter?

I think its kinda effed up that he didn't, how is his daughter supposed to connect with Yoji's family?

Yojiro tried to teach Sydney James Japanese. Face it she is with her mom all of the time. I am surprised that Bridgette did not learn some Japanese.
