I didn't get the ending.

What was the big deal about the guy welcoming puppy dog Nana home at the door? And if it was a gift from rocker Nana, how did she know puppy dog Nana had just had a bad day and needed cheering up? They didn't show her being particularly depressed before that scene.

Well, it didn't really explain it that well in the movie, but in the manga Nana just one-up-ed Hachi's request for an autograph by bringing Takumi over.

LOL... I consider the ending of Nana to be the best ending in any film.

The simple explanation is that NANA wanted to give Hachi a really good gift. So when Hachi said she wanted Takumi's autograph, NANA instead invited him over.

But the true brilliance of the film is that for almost the entire movie, Hachi's life plays out like a classical tragedy. She abandons everything to follow her boyfriend, while the audience watches a depressing dramatic irony unfold (knowing that her relationship will fail).

Suddenly, when Hachi opens the door and receives NANA's gift, the audience suddenly realises that the film isn't a classical tragedy. Hachi's relationship might have unraveled, but it didn't mean that she chose incorrectly. After all, Hachi's attitude to life was what brought NANA and Ren together - which was why NANA gave her the gift.
