Excellent! jackmode you are one of the few who actually understands sci-fi movies. That is why you can get the best out of them. You are so right about them bringing out new movies each week. And the best part is that they are low-budget and still good! I have most of their amazing sci-fi pictures originals. Trully these people over at sci-fi channel know how to do a better job than hollywood. GO SCI-FI!
As I said before movies like Fire Serpent are Godzilla type movies. Most science ficton movies are what one member refered to as cheezy. Let's remember that electricity was only invented 130 yers ago. When the first electric lights were made they were pretty cheezy. Today we make lighting that is state of the art and way more advanced than it was at it's birth. So it is with motion pictures. It is not possible to completly portray a Fire Serpent because there is no such thing to use as a guide. It comes from the imagination of the creator and though a good actor Mr. Shatner is lacking as a writer. Still the movie was better than most here seem to think. But don't take my word for it watch it again and compare it to The Day The Earth Stood Still and you'll understand. It can only be as good as who wrote it and the time period in which it was made!
I think the point of the Sci Fi originals is not for them to be good, but to be entertaining and to make the company money. Because, let's face it, we watch them.
Fire Serpent is actually one of the good ones, but I think that Xander and Chakotay (god, what are the actor's names!?) help a great deal.
The only reason I haven't conquered this world is because of an aging bald man in a wheelchair?
Yeah, they wouldn't keep making them if no one watched. Sure, most of them are bad. But they're bad in a fun way.
I agree with your assessment. "Fire Serpent" is one of the best Sci-Fi Channel originals I've ever seen. And I think one of the reasons is that Nicholas Brendon has a very naturalistic style of acting. Many of the actors that get cast in a Sci-Fi Channel Original tend to be a bit over the to when it's not warranted. On the other hand, someone complained in another thread that Beltran went a bit over the top near the end of the movie. Dude, he's playing a religiously motivated arsonist looking for the biggest flire source he can get. At ther beginning he has to keep himself in check so he won't be found out. But when finally gets the creature, he doesn't really need to hide that much.
Of the Sci-Fi Channel originals that I've liked the most are "Fire Serpent", "Black Hole" and "Epoch". ("Epoch: Evolution" was okay, but it wasn't as good as the original.)
