How to explain the ending (SPOILER WARNINGS)

Now, I read a lot of people considering the ending of the film as a plot hole, where many have said they do not know how they got the car on the roof and into the pool. Well, after rewatching it, I've figured out how they got the car onto the roof, and it is not as farfetched as it seems. A couple of times in the film, we've seen characters using the elevator to get to the roof. Now, since we've seen the characters get the car into the elevator shaft by dropping the elevator down to the next floor, when the car went up in the elevator, it stopped at the penthouse, which is one level down below the roof. And since they were using the winch for the window cleaning scaffolding, they could have attached the winch to the car (as it seems the FBI were taking a few minutes inside the Penthouse to discover the car missing, that gives the group enough time to run the cables to the car and hook it up). Thanks to the change in plan and having the FBI chase the truck, the FBI agents leave the apartment and take the elevator down, allowing the car to come loose from the overhead grates that it slammed into, and freeing it to allow it to dangle in the shaft. They wench the car up out of the shaft until the back in is over the pool. They disconnect the winch, reel it back and then push the car into the pool, where they then roll the cover back into place.

It's really that simple (in fact you can see the elevator sitting with the doors open in the background of one of the shots when they go to recover the car). Of course, this is just my interpretation of what I've seen in the movie and I could very well be wrong.

But this one's eating my popcorn!

They kept the car hidden in the elevtator until the smoke cleared and than dropped it in the pool

I always figured the elevator remained in place while the FBI was searching the apartment. Since the pool was probably one flight up via Shaw's private elevator stops, they were already where they needed to be. They simply hoisted the doors open, brought the car out on to the roof, hid the car in the pool, and then slipped out of the building while the agents were chasing Lester.

Yup. THey might not have thought of looking in the elevator. It did not have to stay there for ages. They took a chance no one would look there. At the start of the film they shown elevator going up there also you needed a code to get up to the penthouse. most likely there was another code for his pool.
