In the cafe scene we are shown that the trackers are powered by heat (the dropping into hot coffee and the corresponding appearance on the tracking screen). So why do people's traces disappear the instant they are killed? Body heat does not drop in an instant.

I think they had some kind of beat monitor included too. I could have sworn sometime in the film when they were trying to figure out what happened to the assassin that removed his tracker they mentioned something about checking his Vitals to see if hes still alive and that was how they realized he was still alive and removed his tracker. So some kind of beat monitor was probably on every participant. I just can't remember exactly what they said because it was so brief but if I am wrong then you can just take that idea and role with it. The beat monitor could be linked that once someones heart stops beating that the tracker automatically shuts off.
