Spoiler allert! 2 questions

When the players are introduced and it's announced that the tournament has to end within 24hours or everyone will be killed the crowd is laughing. Don't they realise that they will loose all their money if the players are killed?

Second question. At the end where Joshua is going back to the hall to kill the man (don't remember his name) he commits suicide. Why? Why didn't he just knock him out, leave him unconscious and safe himself?

1. It briefly said in the film that if all participates died the winner would be the favor which was Joshua.

2. The way I interpreted the scene was Joshua never intended to live. We see him moments before getting the phone call about information about his wife that he was ready to end his own life. He went into the Tournament not to win but to find out who killed his wife and kill them. I was under the impression if he did find and kill the person responsible he would end his own life to be with his wife once more. Thats how I saw the ending was he went in knowing he wanted to be with his wife again so he took himself and the person responsible out as in his eyes was what he wanted to get his revenge and die.

I felt like it took the sport out of the game, personally. What's the fun in rooting for a fighter if they will explode in the end? Were the players even made aware of the time limit? For some reason I had the feeling they didn't know which means they probably wouldn't have narrowed it down to just one in time. Seems like the entire purpose of the game is taken away if the slate is wiped clean at the end.
