Religion or Race?

So I’ve been reading a lot about the tensions in The UK and other parts about of Europe between Asians and whites. But I’m curious to know if the tension is due more to religion and cultural practices or race.

I only ask because I know of plenty of people who are non white but Christian but have never had any serious issues while living over seas.
