The film was shot in Blackburn. The actor that played Yousef has had previous theatre experience and a couple of tv programs. The actresses that played Naseema and Michelle had not done much before but some of the cast such as the guy who played Michelles Dad has had previous acting experience. If you type in the actors names in IMDB you will see their previous acting credits (though theatre ones are not mentioned on this site and not all television ones either)As far as I'm aware the casting was open to anyone to attend. It was quite a long process with several auditions before the parts were secured. I went to one of the auditions to support my friend and basically the actors had to go in and improvise scenes relating to the film.

Hiya, well we were in an amateur drama class and heard through them. The cast members did GCSE or A level drama and heard through their drama groups. Usually it's just word of mouth and being connected to the right people. For example there was an open audition last saturday for Brick Lane and they were looking for asian actors. The film was actually shot in Blackburn but this is not referenced in the film. As far as the film is concerned it just refers to a town up North and leaves the actual location anonymous.

shareIn England the DVD comes out 6 months after the cinema release date usually so if America is the same I'd say autumn or winter 2006.

Hi, I was just wondering if you knew why there hasn't really been much promotion for this film in terms of cast interviews. It's a shame.
shareHiya, there have been a few cast interviews but not on the more commercial programs. Most of them have been on Satellite channels such as Sky and More Four. There have also been interviews on Radio One, Galaxy and the Asian Network. I think maybe small budget was the reason for not widespread publicity which is a shame as not many people have heard of the film. But thats sometimes how it ges with small British films.

shareHiya as far as I know none of them have websites. Samina (Naseema) is finishing a degree at Leeds University which will take another year, Wasim (Yousif) is completeing his studies too, Nicola (Michelle) will be in Dominic Savage's next film and another film too, details will probably go on IMDB in a few months and Tom (Adam)and the rest of the crew have all been in various things, check out IMDB :0)

When there are so many big budget films which contain big budget actors and are big budget drivel, then an absolute gem like this comes along to show us all what acting and filmaking is about. Well done to all.
BTW for ref. I'm Irish 45 and have teenage kids, and some parallels can be drawn to our neck of the woods now.
I was lucky in seeing this film but unlucky where I saw it.... on board BA back from the Midd East. the screen was tiny (like the leg room), and the turbulance brutal.
So cannot wait for DVD.
