Ending - Bias? (spoiler)

Did people like the ending? As a film studies student, I can spot bias in films and this one had strong ones. Especially at the ending. I personally agree with one of the User Comments that Dominic Savage (director/writer) was casting his personal bias towards the characters in his ending. I.e. showing the reward to the muslim female, while simultaneously showing the muslim brother get brutally punished. A very bad ending IMO. You always know that the "happy ending" was going to be with Naseema character and the "bad ending" with her brother so this was very predictable.

Also having your lover being involved (unintentionally but still involved) in the beating of your father is probably one of the hardest things you can forgive. Especially after the fact that he acted like it was all news to him when she told him. This makes it hard to trust him so for her to choose to run off with him must be "true" love because that's a pretty naive or gullable response consdering.

Also why wasn't Azara shown to have anger towards Adam (because of the father's beating) or didn't Naseema or her brother tell her? I find it hard to believe that Naseema wouldn't have told her. I think it's pretty conveinient the way they only show hatred to Adam (the while male) from muslim males and not muslim females. Especially when theres a strong reason to.

Just my 2 cents

Meaningful analysis Axe-M.

It stems from a very common sentiment; sympathy for the 'oppressed' Asian girl and contempt for the Asian-Muslim *male* 'villain'. And it's common in society. Many males are 'oppresed' in certain ways and suffer the turmoils of culture clashes. But the liberal west doesn't give them the same sympathy, airtime or outlet to express it.

I preffered 'Yasmin' with Archi Panjabi.

I knew from around halfway through the film what the storyline would end up like... and was bit surprised the girl would run away with lad after about a few weeks of dating. Suppose age would come into it and naivity of the couple.

Living and born in london -which is practially utopia comapred to where these films are set - these films give a depressing outlook of northern england.

Plus, the south asians in the uk vary from region to region...and cultural practises differ.

A tv show called 'great british asian invasion' gives a quick background of the south asian immigration into britain which increased sharply in the 50s onwards...

The backround of the muslims vary academically and social background from other muslims even from the same country.
