WHAT IS THIS ABOUT AND WHY ARE THERE SO MANY BIG NAMES IN IT?

reply

I found this in something about Anthony Rapp:

"Currently Rapp is in production on two independent films. He will be seen playing himself in Danny Roane: First Time Director in this comedy-mockumentary about an out-of-work, scandel-plagued actor played by Andy Dick."

So yeah, that's pretty much all there is to it right now.

Ant's playing himself? That's awesome.

*shrugs* It seems semi-interesting. I like a lot of the people who are going to be in it, so, yeah. That really doesn't help you at all though does it?

Am I the only one who's having a hard time taking this seriously?

One minute he says "It's going to be a dramatic, hard-core movie about drugs and alcohol,"

Then he says "It's just a fun-filled cast of loony toonies,"

Umm...hmm. *shrug*

But, I <3 the big Rent ad in the middle of the article!

My history professor is actually in this film. He is a friend of Anthony Rapp and happened to be in the right place at the right time when an actor didn't show up. Bill Jahnel. Now it is a lot easier to play 6 degrees of Kevin Baccon.

I read an interview with Anthony Rapp the other day, and here's what he had to say about the movie...

"I have a nice supporting role in Andy Dick’s movie which I’ve seen a rough cut of it and I’m so proud of him. I mean, I’ve known him since I was 10 years old so he’s an old, old friend of mine and this is one of the first major projects we’ve gotten to do together.

You play yourself?
Yeah, I play myself. It’s a mockumentary of him making his first film, of his character, Danny Roane, directing his first film. In the film, he casts me to play him. It’s all very meta. It’s lots of layers of reality going on. But I do play myself although it’s a version of myself."

Does anyone know when it will be released? Or of any official webpage where I can go to be updated about the whole thing?

reply

The movie is going to premiere at the South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin, Texas. The festival runs March 10th through the 18th and it will show twice there. From there it should have a limited theatrical release in the near future. There is no official web page for it yet, but there will be soon. andydick.com usually has fun stuff and updates.

This movie is about an alcoholic who tries to hide his heavy drinking while he, in all confused sincerity, makes an inept anti-drinking movie. There are so many big names in it because Andy Dick is a comedians' comedian. Jack Black, Ben Stiller, Mo Collins, Maura Tierney, Danny Trejo, Jimmy Kimmel, etc. were great, but I was particularly impressed with Bob Odenkirk and Michael Hitchcock (and, most of all, Andy Dick).
