I enjoyed this movie, but..

I have to say I really enjoyed this movie a lot more than I thought I would, and while I'm a big fan of vague endings, the end of this movie was a little disconcerting to me. What are everyone else's interpretation of the ending?

I wondered about this myself so I watched with the directors commentary on the DVD. There was not a suicide at the end (I wasn't sure) but she leaves it uncertain if Delilah does more than just run out of the church. The director's comment was that it was more important that Kiran know and respect herself.

My take would be that Kiran was able to move on with her life. Delilah on the other had chose to get married and go abraod. So both of them are on a journey -one physically and the other one emotionally.

The ending is rather vague but I am certain there was no suicide.

I have just finished watching this movie and I agree with your comment. And I agree with another poster's comment about Kiran having love and respect for herself at the end.

I really wanted Kiran to go away as she had planned, even if it was without Delilah. I hope she did.
And I wish Delilah didn't have to get married, but who knows.

Well, we have the director's comment which gives little away. There was very clearly no suicide. Kiran sees the butterfly escape its chrysalis and walks away to seek a life, though not specified here, of comparative freedom.

But Lilah too sees the same butterfly. How can this mean anything but that she too will find some kind of freedom, whether with or apart from Kiran?
