Excellent doc

One of the few reasons I would have wanted to have been born 30 years earlier was to understand how awwesome Mickey Mantle was and why my dad idolized him so much. His "I blew it" moment was just amazing.

If you get the chance, sports fan or not, watch this on HBO. I'd be shocked if you were not moved at several points...

THIS WAS EXCELLENT.I ONLY WISHED IT WAS A 2 HOUR DOCUMENTARY,INSTEAD OF JUST 1 HOUR.I WOULD HAVE LIKED EVEN KNOW A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT ONE OF THE GREATEST BASBALL PLAYERS OF ALL TIME.HOPEFULLY ONE DAY THEY'LL MAKE A MOVIE ABOUT HIM.I KNOW THEY KIND OF DID WITH *61,BUT IT WASN'T ABOUT MICKEY'S WHOLE LIFE.

As a kid growing up in Brooklyn during the 50s and 60s, Mickey Mantle was my hero. My Dad had his Dodgers, and I certainly enjoyed his enthusiasm over Duke Snider, Pee Wee Reese and others, but I was a Yankee fan. And the Yankees, for me, were all about the Mick.
I've seen this documentary 4 or 5 times and it never fails to have me in tears. I certainly know that Mickey had his faults but I believe that he did find his way to a better understanding of who and what he was in the end. And how he could help others avoid the same pitfalls he gave into during much of his life.
I admired many people as I have gone through life, most unrelated to any sport or entertainment business, but Mickey Mantle will always be a rare and special memory. A reminder of a time when a young boy had a hero.

Yeah I cried during this too. Which some of you may know would come as a suprise, being that I am the toughest S.O.B on IMDB. I beat up bums for fun.
