Did I miss something?

What was the deal with Jenny? What was the mystery surrounding her, and her journal and her actually NOT having gone off to school? This is driving me crazy, I just saw the movie and I was waiting and waiting for the Jenny thing to be resolved and it never addressed what the truth about Jenny was. So frustrating. Can any one help, did I just miss it?

A person on here posted this and did a wonderful job explaining it:

If You Are Still Confused About The Movie. . .

Let me give you my analysis of it.

Jenny was a first-time teen mother, who suffered
post-partum depression in that house. She killed
her baby in the crib, with a large kitchen knife
and then took the knife to her stomach in her own
bed (remember, Laura dreams about doing that).

The parents put out a lie about her going to NYU
to cover up the double homicide and quickly sell
their house. Jenny, like the dog, is buried on the
property. The house is now being haunted by two
ghosts: Jenny and her crying baby.

Laura walks in and immediately the ghosts latch-on
to her. Jenny takes control of Laura and gradually
makes her delusional. She is possessed. The baby
cries when she takes her, indicating that the pure
soul knows it's being handled by an evil spirit,
that of Jenny.

The nanny, of Eastern European extraction, knows
a thing or two about such things and she takes
Laura's over-peroxided hair and the baby's pacifier
(both personal items) and uses them to put a pro-
tective spell to guard against the evil spirits
that want to hurt Laura and her baby.

It works, as long as it stays put.

Jenny tells Laura to look under the crib and remove
the offending parcel. Only a ghost would know where
the nanny hid it. As soon as that happens, the
ghosts are free to do as they please. That night,
laying in bed, Jenny makes Laura leave the bedroom,
find the doll and replace it with the baby in the
crib, while burying her own in the field.

Having done that, Jenny takes over Laura's body
completely. It's now Laura's body, but Jenny's
soul/spirit inside of her. That's why she starts
writing in that diary, where she last left off,
as if it belonged to her. It did. She was Jenny!

The nanny told Laura that sometimes, mothers who
think that the baby has gotten away with too much
of their soul, will kill their babies to reclaim
it. That's what Jenny did earlier. And now that's
what she made Laura do, by getting inside of her.

What may appear to be post-partum depression, or
psychosis, was really p-o-s-s-e-s-s-i-o-n.
