With “Ex Machina,” writer/director Alex Garland has delivered a thoughtful, thrilling, and entertaining science-fiction tale that ends up doing more with its minimal budget than some films of the genre do with several times such an amount.

shareN-n-n-n-n-n-oooo. So boring. My husband got up and went do something in the garage in the middle of this. I never felt any empathy, sympathy, antipathy, or any other emotion toward the characters. The thing I liked most was the scenery. The house was set in a beautiful place.
