Where was the story?

She was a rich b**ch and he was a drunk. I thought it would be an in depth story with good character development with some good campy laughs. There realy was no story. I wanted to know more about Bernard and his background, why did they not have Doris in more glamourous scenes: partys, social events, etc? They just stayed in the mansion. HBO decided to go cheap, they must not have felt strongly for the material or they would have demanded a rewrite and spent more money.

It was not a total loss. Susan Sarandon was wonderful as usual, she never lets me down even in the lightest of screenplays. I was most disappointed in Ralph Fiennes performance- he was terrible! And I love watching him in movies!

Not a total loss but could have been much better.

6 out of a 10.

I think it is just based on what you are told in the very beginning of the movie, that this movie is based partly on facts.

There are obviously some inaccuracies(if you know anything about Doris Duke prior to seeing this) and very little is known of Bernard Lafferty. So it wasn't really crucial to authenticate Fiennes' portrayal of him.
