Master and Slave

This movie was a lesson in inappropriate relationships.
The 'Doris' character saw in him a broken man. A homosexual in a time of opression with a drinking problem that she could manipulate and have at her beck and call whenever she wanted. He wasn't her friend. He just wanted to be her. She used him and he used her.
But the best scene in the movie was when she bought him that embroidered caftan and after he had spent so long pining away for her and drinking himself stupid, she becomes enraged at him for not looking after her orchids correctly and forces him to repot them all as he wears his luxurious caftan, sobbing and drinking brandy from a snifter.
If it had been on SNL I would have called it genius comedy!
All in all this movie reminded me of the way some girls will 'collect' gay men as though they are toys to bring out when buying clothes or getting their hair done.

You're right. This movie, with little action, was about relationships. At first she was the master and he was the slave. Over time, their roles became reversed. He became her master, and she was the slave. It was pretty pathetic.
