The Bugs

Hi,
I was wondering, do you think that in the end, any bugs could have survived? Perhaps an egg escaped. Or do you believe all traces were burnt and the government conspiracy covered up?

Sincerely,
Barry

I don't believe there ever were any bugs. I view it as a combo of shared psychotic disorder and meth abuse. Paranoid delusions. That said, the acting is so believable, and the characters so convincing, that I wouldn't have been the least bit surprised if it had been revealed there truly were bugs. That Dr. Sweet guy seemed rather... off ... too, but yeah.

However, had there been bugs, I doubt the fire would've gotten every last one of them. I mean, look at how hard it is to kill off cockroaches.

Lol Just for the record I am not that thick. Of course I know there were no bugs. I was taking a stab at this movie, which makes it way too blatantly obvious the characters are delusional. Its way over the top. Especially that whole 'I am the queen' bit at the end. They could have at least made it subtle to keep the audience guessing.

It isn't their job to keep the audience guessing. That wasn't the point of the movie. The point of the movie was to terrify you with a reminder of the frailty of sanity, including your own.

As someone who has actually spent some time living with a paranoid schizophrenic I can assure you that there is absolutely NOTHING subtle about them. And I don't think the movie was even trying to keep us guessing - the movie was an in your face portrayal of madness. You could tell he was schizo from the get-go.

Confirmed yet in the Hollywood Reporter?

You--lighten up. You--big trouble. You--get in the car.

This needs to happen.

If there were bugs, they could probably escape on the twenty dollar bill Agnes slipped under the door. But then remember, she said the bugs would never leave them because she and Peter made them. So who knows.
