Did anyone else laugh when Michael Shannon pulled his tooth out?

My girlfriend and I started laughing hysterically when he was screaming bloody murder while pulling out his tooth with the pliars. It was pretty damn funny. Anyone else agree?

reply

well, pretty disturbing at first, but then when he screamed, "They're Eating ME!!!!" I Couldn't Help But Giggle. . .and then when he looked in the mircoscope and went Yelped. . .his face was priceless

It was excruciating for me to watch because at the time I had a wisdom tooth and a molar that were giving me problems. A bunch of sadists if you ask me.

Nah I couldn't agree more, typical desensitised modern cinema-goers. My teeth are fine and I was wincing all the way.

Yeah I have to admit that scene cracked me up as well.

It's really when things start going downhill for Peter in a big way.

Lol, I appreciate the sentiment and *wish* I could have seen the humor in it. Unfortunately, I was far too busy covering my ears and closing my eyes during that particular scene. Just imaginging being so out of it that you'd actually try to rip your own tooth out of your mouth in a frenzy.....yikes!

You and your girlfriend found that "pretty damn funny?"? I find that pretty damn sick. What's so funny about a mentally ill person mutilating himself? Nothing. You and your girlfriend sound like you deserve each other.

This about sums it up. If the scene were real and posted on Youtube, the OP would be one of the first people to comment "haha that was so funny dumbass pulling his own tooth lolz"

Dude, it WAS funny..............

I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to agree with the OP on this one. Nobody here is laughing at mentally ill people mutilating themselves, but I did laugh at Michael Shannon pretending to mutilate himself in that particular scene. He gave a very entertaining performance, and there's an undercurrent of (extremely) dark comedy in the whole film. There's no need to get morally offended at someone for laughing at a movie.

reply

Laugh? No way. I was screaming bloody murder. Which is a testament to this flick because it is damn near impossible to freak me out but the teeth scenes were some the most terrifying I have ever seen. Maybe I am just getting old lol.

I found it funny when he started itching all over and started spazzing out. Hilarious

reply

If I were 12 years old and emotionally undeveloped I might have laughed too.

reply

I guess if I was uptight and resentful for lacking a sense of humor, I would refer to the OP as emotionally undeveloped as well.

reply

I laughed. That part and many others in this movie were hilarious. I think the movie was well done, so it wasn't a "so bad it's funny" type of hilarious. I think that we are supposed to be both disgusted and humored by what there people were doing to themselves.

reply

The tooth scene was too horrible to laugh at, especially if you've ever had a tooth pulled. But I did crack up at the line "I am the great mother bug!" There's a line I never thought I'd hear in a movie!

reply

i couldn't laugh. it was pretty disturbing to me.
