shareI never heard that. I just saw it in the TV listings with a good star rating and decided to watch it. It's definitely a brain-bender and I'd recommend it, but I personally didn't enjoy it that much.
shareI would say that almost ALL of Bill Friedkin's films are worth watching many times over because there are so many layers and subtleties that you miss a lot on the first viewing. The way that Michael Shannon slaps himself amid sentence is spine tingling. His meltdown is just plain chilling and Ashley Judd's reaction to that is stomach churning, AND totally believable that these people would cling to each other in such lonely desperation.

I remember going to the cinema to see this, and we left halfway through. Ive only done this twice, im actually not that hard to please. And when we asked for our money back the manager totally expected it and informed us that lots of folk had been wanting refunds.

at the end of the movie when ashley judd stands up and declares "i am the queen mother bug!!", i pretty much burrowed my face in my hands, not knowing whether to laugh or cry...

I thought it was a pretty regular film up until the point where they just loose everything. Neither very good or very bad, just ok.
The marketing for the film was misleading. If a movie is touted to be a horror film about bugs eating people, then god damn it, the movie should be about bugs eating people. Also, schizophrenia is a made up condition, it doesn't exist, making this film all the more unrealistic and uninteresting.
If I took a gamble over whether a film will be good or bad and I am at the same time supporting the existence of the movie theatre, I would also want my money back after seeing a bad film. It doesn't make sense to have paid for such a thing. Give me my money back.. for every bad film I have ever seen, Hollywood.. you jerks.

I had read some comments about it in this board and that's it and this week I had decided to rent this movie. Well, I admit it, I like it.

Those that disliked this film, why did you not like it? Almost every single person that didn't like this film seems to be just saying "It sucked" without giving any reasons or people that hated it due to the fact that it was a different film from what the trailer made it out to be. I'm just curious.
shareI found the dialogue to be uninteresting, rambling, and generally godawful. I was actually really surprised that this movie was based on a stage play, because during the film, I hypothesized that the actors were clumsily improvising large chunks of the script. I just couldn't believe that someone actually sat down and wrote this stuff. Additionally, the characters were really unpleasant. They weren't likable people; they weren't interesting people to watch. They were just gross and boring and lacking in established personalities. I was given no reason to care about any of them. So I didn't.
In a movie that takes place in a single room and has little to no action, I feel that interesting dialogue and solid characterization are vital, and Bug failed on both counts.
this movie was recommended on the sleuth board and I can't believe I sat through this utter rubbish! I was waiting and waiting for something that makes this movie interesting, clever or at least entertaining. In vain. Seriously top3 of the worst movies I've seen this year.
shareThe film had good parts but by the end of the movie where Shannon's character kills the doctor and Agnes asks why'd he did that, he replies that the doctor was a new model with synthethic skin. I lost all hope, then it got REAL bad when Ashley Judd yells out "I'm the queen mother bug!!" I'm a big fan of Ashley Judd, Lynn Collins & Harry Connick Jr. but I was so letdown by the end of the movie, also, it was marketed as a film where bugs are EATING people, but it's all a delusion, Shannon's character was a psycho. The first half of the film was okay though, just felt a little too long.

Brilliant movie, to a point.... Granted it has some flaws, as do most films, but for it's genre, this film is pretty solid. Great performances by Judd & Shannon.
