Why is Uncle Russ so mean?

I didn't notice it much this season but was watching reruns again and it got me thinking [again] because I noticed this a lot in earlier seasons, why is Uncle Russell so mean to them (the kids)? In the beginning he was always so distant, and last season he would be extra mean to JoJo. In fact most of the time, if you watch, JoJo won't even make eye contact or speak around him. I have an uncle like that, he's weird and I never got what his problem was. He's been like that since I was a kid. He won't look in our (my brother and I) direction or say a word to us.

It's really odd this season that he's so nice and actually has Jojo working for him. Wonder what changed.

I remember seeing an episode from an earlier season & JoJo expressed to the family that he felt that Uncle Russ didn't like him. Run asked Russell if he had a problem with JoJo & he said he didn't, he even mentioned told JoJo that he loved him. Idk..maybe he just practices tough love on JoJo.

I saw that one too, it was the Vegas episode.

Despite all that, Russ does act like an ass hole on the show. He's very mean.

That's what makes it sort of ironic that he's all zen and Buddhist.
