I'm glad it's out on dvd because...

They absolutely refused to show it here. The trivia says it was cancelled because no one watched but I would've at least checked it out to see if I liked it if I was given a choice. As soon as I can I'll get a copy of it when I find a place that will sell it around here.

Where are you located?

I got my 2-disc dvd set from Amazon, and I have seen it on ebay also, every once in a while. The disc quality is good, and there are deleted scenes included. Well worth $20. I recommend, if you're already a fan, and missed some eps, or are just curious.

I ordered it from Amazon too. I had never watched it on TV but was curious due to what I had heard about the show. I agree, well worth the $20.00. Wish this show had gone on.

The real reason that the show was cancelled was due to the efforts of the American Family Association, who began their protests of the show before they had even seen the first episode. The AFA scared off the show's advertisers and even some affiliates, and created such a negative buzz around the show that many religious people just assumed that it was blasphemous without actually turning it on.

The AFA said that their biggest bone of contention was the way Jesus was portrayed, but in fact it appeared to be that Daniel had an openly gay son and accepted him fully. Apparently the notion that a member of the clergy could have a healthy relationship with a gay offspring and not try to "cure" him or disown him was offensive to these people.

That's not why it was cancelled. I have to laugh when people pin it on AFA (btw, I don't like a lot of stuff they do!) because it was not them at all. Ratings were low and NBC lost stock. They pulled the plug so it couldn't pull them down as well. It was a wise choice to pull it because it was foolish to put it on the same time as several highly rated tv shows.

Um.... the ratings line is bullsh*t. The Office had FAR worse ratings during it's first season, and so did Seinfeld. They were chickensh*t. Easily swayed. Breaks my heart, this show was SO good.

That's just nut...I'd like to watch this...mainly because I want to see Aidan Quinn, but the storyline seems interesting.

What did the AFA do that scared them so much?

Hello,

This is probably a little late, but Amazon has this for $12.99 until April 6th.
